THE EXCELLECT OFFICE
WELCOME TO LILI
In the last issue we were about to welcome our new team member Lili Scott and she has now joined us. Here she talks to us about herself and her first few weeks at Excellect.
Lili: Hi! After 12 years in the BPO sector joining Excellect has been a really exciting new challenge for me – which I love. When I’m not working, I have a 6-year-old daughter and partner Sean, we also had a new addition of a whippet named Winnie for Christmas last year and we love to take her for long walks to the beach or to the woods.
I love to socialise with my friends and family, going out to eat and listening to live music.
Excellect: And what have you first few weeks been like with us?
Lili: A whirlwind! The team have been so welcoming and helpful, I feel really supported and like I’ve made the perfect decision.
Excellect: What has your favourite moment been so far?
Lili: I love the daily morning catch ups with the whole team, it sets the day off on a great tone and has really helped me to get to know everyone.
THE RISE IN PAINFUL MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS
Pre-pandemic, musculoskeletal problems of course existed, with c18.8 million people suffering from arthritis, neck, and back pain. But now since COVID- 19, and the effects of people working from home, numbers have gone up!! People are spending long hours working hunched over the laptop, on a sofa or a bed, or at the kitchen table. Research carried out by BUPA found that nearly two thirds of employees working from home (equating to 11 m) have injured their back, neck, hips, knees, or wrists as a result of working from home. Employers have a duty of care to reassess working environment, ensure the employee takes regular breaks, and help them adjust as necessary. Unfortunately, the issues caused can lead to the loss of working days, not to mention pain for all concerned. Did you know that there is such a thing as musculoskeletal injury compensation? There are early signs of claims being seen.
Assessments being done, one thing employers can also do is offer employees a Health Cash Plan where they can claim back for every day medical expenses including physiotherapy and chiropractor treatment. It means that the employee can go to the physiotherapist and claim back the cost of several sessions. NHS waiting lists for physiotherapy are long, and yet with this plan the employee can get treatment quickly when they need it, helping to reduce absence through illness.
WHAT IS AN EAP – AND DOES EVERY BUSINESS NEED TO HAVE ONE?
An EAP (Employee Assistance Programme) has never been more in demand. People have had to cope with so many things through the pandemic. Worries about jobs; health; finances; relationships; family, to name but a few, can seriously impact an employee’s mental health. As employees return to the workplace it brings additional anxiety. It’s hard for an employer to support employees with all they have to face but offering access to an EAP where they can speak to trained counsellors at least demonstrates care. Employees can use a 24/7 telephone line or can access help online or via an App if they prefer. Employers can also include face to face counselling sessions in their EAP if they wish. It’s a low-cost benefit which is simple and quick to put in place and, we have pricing suitable for SME businesses where they have less than 50 employees, as well as for larger businesses.
ANOTHER 5 STAR REVIEW
We love getting positive reviews like this. Well done, Charlie!
“Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value”
Charlie was extremely helpful in evaluating the market and coming up with a new private health agreement for us with AXA that saved us over £1,000 on the renewal premium from our existing provider, Vitality. Charlie was very professional in his dealings with us and managed to get the new agreement set up within some tight deadlines.”
A ROMANTIC FOOTNOTE – AND AN EXCELLECT FIRST
